NSS

National Service Scheme, the scheme was launched in Mahatma Gandhi Centenary year,1969. Student’s personality through community service is the aim of NSS and the motto is NOT ME BUT YOU. The cardinal principle of the NSS program is that it is organized by the students themselves, and both students and teachers through their combined participation in community service, get a sense of involvement in the tasks of nation building. It gives opportunity to students to interact with society, teaches dignity of labour, develops personality, enhance cultural and artistic talents. The college has two units, unit 544 & 700. And have 100 volunteers each.  Both the units are affiliated to APJ ABDUL KALAM TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY NSS CELL.

AIM

The programme aims to instill the idea of social welfare in students, and to provide service to society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity. In doing so, volunteers learn from people in villages how to lead a good life despite a scarcity of resources. it also provides help in natural and man-made disasters by providing food, clothing and first aid to the disaster’s victims.

To understand the community in which they work.
To  understand themselves in relation to their community.
To identify the needs and problems of community and involve them in problem solving process.
To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to the individual and community problems.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Mr.Aswin Raj selected as the Best Programme Officer (Special Appreciation), APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, NSS Cell.

TKMIT NSS volunteer secretary Hana Shereen Kuniyil Hamsa was awared as “NSS JEWEL” for being the best volunteer in the campus as part of Women’s Day celebration.

TKMIT NSS received certificate for participation in Short Film Making “Hemopol2023”, conducted by Kerala Police.

TKMIT NSS volunteers Nikhil Krishna J R and Gayathri Suresh L had been selected for NI Camp.

Volunteer secretaries Hana Shereen Kuniyil Hamsa (0 and Mohammed Danish C and volunteer Fathimathu Farhana was selected as volunteers Asian Mountain Bike Cycling Championship at Ponmudi, Trivandrum.

Program officer Prof. Aswin Raj V was selected as member of Technical Committee Advisors, District Suchitwa Mission, Kollam

Baginesh M B, our former Volunteer Secretary, received the NSS Yuva Yodha Award on NSS day from the Krishna Foundation, Mumbai.

TKMIT NSS volunteers Anjana K and Jerin Shaji got selected as the Kollam-Pathanamthitta Regional Coordinators of NRPF and KTU CARE.

TKMIT NSS volunteers Arya Murukesan and Nandaraj T V had been selected for NI Camp.

 

Noora Noushad (S8 BM) and Vaishnav Unnikrishnan (S8 CS) had received special appreciation for promoting voluntary blood donation. Noora received award as the state coordinator of the program SRISHTI (Birthday blood donation flagship programme) and Vaishnav received the award as Kollam- Pathanamthitta regional coordinator on organizing programs

TKM Institute Of Technology NSS Units 320 &700 volunteers got price for quiz competition about the topic “Anti -drugs” conducted by Excise Department, Kottarakara.

Happy to inform you that, our NSS volunteer Arya Murukeshan, S3 BME got second prize in the state level paper presentation competition ‘Hemopol’ conducted by state police ( Pol-Blood) and Kerala State Aids control Society.

Ms. Arya and our NSS unit received award from Hon. Higher educational Minister.

Sonu Shaikh Shibu, Ex-Volunteer Secretary, had won the title of UN75–ALBERTIAN FOUNDATION STUDENT AMBASSADOR FOR CLIMATIC ACTION, organized by United Nations as a part of the Global Dialogue on 75th birth anniversary of UN. Sonu became one among the 7 ambassadors selected from India and will get a chance to visit the UN offices in Europe and to speak in the UN Regional Office Vienna, Austria. The duration of the title is awarded for 1 year.

 

 

 

Sonu Shaikh Shibu, Ex-Volunteer Secretary, was selected for the International Youth Exchange Programme (IYEP), conducted by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Youth Delegations are encouraged with various countries to promote mutual understanding of values and culture among the youth and to develop better relations. Pooja Srivendhya, Ex-Volunteer Secretary, was one among the very few candidates in the waiting list for the Exchange Programme. These cultural exchanges help to bring the world closer and lessen the boundaries set by the lines of nations, color, race and language and move towards a Global Village approach.

Sonu Shaikh Shibu, Ex-Volunteer Secretary, won the first position for Swaraj submitted for the video making competition based on the commemoration of Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary organized by the APJAKTU NSS cell. The video was made in a manner that ensures Mahatma Gandhi continues to be an inspiration for future generations. The inspirational video makes the younger generation see the Gandhian principles of life beyond the boundaries of history textbooks. It also revokes the patriot in one’s soul and work towards the country’s true empowerment.

Sonu Shaikh Shibu, Ex-Volunteer Secretary, won the first prize for the detailed documentation presentation competition on topics related to Dr. A P J ABDUL KALAM which was named as ‘Flying Wings’, organized by APJAKTU NSS cell on his 6th death anniversary day. APJ Abdul Kalam’s life and values are ones that needs to be treasured throughout the eternity. He has shown the light across darker turns for the development of India through Defense and Space Explorations as well. The volunteers of NSS TKMIT are trying to understand this remarkable man and his values to become a better person for the good of humankind and every other living being.

Sonu Shaikh Shibu, Ex-Volunteer Secretary, participated in the National Youth Parliament jointly organized by Central ministry for youth affairs and UNV INDIA. Youth Parliament (which is held during the Youth Month) in which matters pertinent to youth are discussed and where participation is restricted to young people, and proceedings dedicated to them.

Pooja Srivendhya, Ex-Volunteer Secretary, won the award dedicated to NSS Student Volunteers for their selfless service and courage. It is awarded by Krishna Foundation, a Voluntary Organization/Non-Governmental Organization. She submitted a report about the activities and contributions made towards the society at large in the past two years.

Sonu S Shibu and 5 other volunteers from NSS TKMIT took part in the “Meet the Chief Minister Program” organised by Mahatma Gandhi University, an interaction program for selected students with the CM of Kerala. The session was aimed at sharing the ideas and plans of the students with the honourable CM directly without any middle persons to alter their words. The volunteers of NSS TKMIT ensured to make good use of this valuable opportunity to propel the future of education further ahead.

The volunteers of NSS TKMIT won the Best Video Award for SVEEP (Systemic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation Program) as a part of the Election Awareness Week. The Kollam District Collector personally awarded the volunteers for the remarkable awareness video. Awareness videos based on socially relevant topics makes the public more alert about the happenings of their surroundings especially when it’s conveyed by young minds who are keen to see a change in the world.

The NSS volunteers of TKMIT bagged the first prize for the maximum number of blood donations (57) done during a limited period. The donation challenge was organized by NSS Rudhirasena, Kollam – Pathanamthitta Region. This award has the value of priceless lives driven by every pint of blood donated under the NSS TKMIT units. Continued efforts are made throughout the units to sustain this plentiful source of blood for anyone in need especially during this testing times with covid threat still hovering over the people’s lives.

On 24th September 2021, NSS Day, the APJAKTU NSS State Cell announced 2 state awards and 2 special appreciations for NSS TKMIT out of the 10 awards. Ex- Volunteer Secretaries, Pooja Srivendhya and Sonu S Shibu, were selected for the Best Volunteer Awards. The Program Officer, Vysakh Raveendra Kurup, was awarded with the special appreciation for Best Program Officer and Unit#544 was given the Special Appreciation for Best Unit. These elite awards are the golden feathers of pride and hard work born from the model leadership qualities of the awardees and the combined teamwork of every volunteer who pitched in their cent to take NSS TKMIT to its current zenith. The relentless efforts to make the society a better place through various plans and schemes such as Snehaksharam, My Birthday an Earth Day, Punarjani and the heart pulling bond with the residents of our adopted colony, Edaikidam have made this achievement even sweeter. NSS TKMIT has made a nest in the history of APJAKTU NSS Awards by scoring a total of 4 achievements all at once.
